Hardrock entry !?
hardrock is a 100 miler in the san juan mountains of colorado.
with 10,000m of ascent and descent at altitude it is widely regarded as the toughest 100 miler in the US.
i refer to it as the toughest footrace in the world.
with the ballot draw coming up in 2 weeks my thoughts have turned to how hard it is to get into this race.
basically they have 130-140 spots each year.
everyone needs to 'apply' though those with 'a qualifier' eg. western states or have raced HR in recent years are pretty much a 'given' for getting into the ballot/draw.
last year my application was knocked back due to 'lack of mountain experience'. thought i suspect not having a recent 100 miler counted against me as well.
in the HR ballot system people get different numbers of 'tickets' ie. their name can appear in the draw more than once.
all applicants get at least 1 'ticket'.
you get an extra 2 tickets for a previous HR finish and 1 for previously missing out in the draw (within the last 3 years).
so some people will have their name in the hat 7 times!!
i will be there once.
i will have a 17% chance of getting in first go.
thats assuming they put me in the fricking ballot to start with!
so far 250 people have applied.
eeeeek.
wish me luck!

Luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My fingers are crossed for you too. If it any consolation, I think your goal is pretty scary too :-)
Luck too!!!! Feathers are crossed.
All the best Dave. It would be great if you can get in. Does the course marking from last year count towards anything?
Good luck Bro!!!!!
Actually a couple I know from here are heading to Colorado to work (for a year or more) in a week or two. Both are ironmen. Well, one an ironwoman :-) She's top 10 in the world in her category. Anyway, they are pretty excited about the training prospects in that part of the world.
And GOOD LUCK again.
horrie - i have asked for another 'ticket' in the ballot for course marking/demarking but i am not hopefull!
Yeah, you should get the extra ticket. All that butt kissing that you did must be worth something? ;)
